The Tragedy Of The Person Who Makes Every Topic About Politics
The Tragedy Of The Person Who Makes Every Topic About Politics
You know this person. Everyone knows this person. Every family has one. Every office has one. Every WhatsApp group definitely has one.
No matter what the topic is, somehow, magically, impressively, and very annoyingly, everything becomes about politics.
You say the weather is hot.
They say, “This is because of government policy.”
You say the price of chicken went up.
They say, “This is why we must change the system.”
You say the road got pothole.
They say, “This is what happens when you vote wrongly.”
You say you are tired.
They say, “This country makes everyone tired.”
Bro. I just said I didn’t sleep well. Not writing a manifesto.
There is a special talent required to turn every single conversation into a political debate. It is actually impressive. You can talk about football, suddenly become about corruption. You talk about school, suddenly become about policy failure. You talk about traffic jam, suddenly become about national leadership.
You talk about nasi lemak also can become political analysis.
This person does not have conversations. This person has press conferences.
The tragedy is not that they care about politics. Caring about politics is fine. Important even. Politics affects economy, education, healthcare, infrastructure, taxes — yes, these things matter.
But when everything becomes politics, something is wrong.
Because at that point, you are not discussing politics anymore. You are living inside politics like it is a religion, a football team, and a Netflix series combined into one personality.
These people don’t have hobbies. Their hobby is being angry about politics. Morning angry. Afternoon angry. Night angry. Before sleep also angry. Wake up check news, find something new to be angry about. If no new issue, bring back old issue and be angry again.
It’s like emotional recycling.
The biggest problem with “Everything Is Politics” people is this:
They don’t actually want solutions. They want arguments.
You can tell because if you say: “Okay, so what’s your solution?”
Suddenly the conversation becomes very quiet. Because complaining is easy. Fixing is hard. Posting is easy. Governing is hard. Tweeting is easy. Policy is hard.
So they stay in the area where they feel powerful — comment section politics.
These people also cannot accept one very uncomfortable fact:
Life is bigger than politics.
People still need to:
- Work
- Raise kids
- Pay bills
- Take care of parents
- Cook
- Exercise
- Laugh
- Rest
- Live
Not every conversation must end with: “This is why the country is finished.”
If everything is political, then nothing is personal anymore. Friendship becomes debate. Family dinner becomes forum. Office lunch becomes talk show. WhatsApp group becomes battlefield.
You cannot even say “Nice weather today” without someone replying with a 17-paragraph analysis of national policy failure.
Relax lah. Not everything needs your political thesis.
Here’s the real tragedy of the person who makes everything about politics: They slowly become very tiring to talk to.
People stop inviting them out. People mute them in WhatsApp. People avoid sitting next to them at dinner. Not because people don’t care about issues — but because nobody wants to attend a live talk show every time they eat fried rice.
There is a time to discuss politics. There is a time to debate policy. There is a time to be serious.
But there is also a time to just be a normal human being and talk nonsense, laugh, complain about traffic, talk about food, talk about movies, talk about life.
If every topic becomes politics, then politics has not just entered your mind.
It has eaten your personality.
And that, my friend, is a very boring personality to have.
